“Oh, just Grow Up!” The Music Maketh the Man

Posted in Art, Lolocaust, Music on July 17th, 2008 by Bouncybhall

Chesney HawkesWhen I was growing up I was never really bothered by ‘popular music’, while my peers were listening to East 17 and Chesney Hawkes I was listening to much of my parent’s vinyl collection, from Dexy’s Midnight Runners to The Hollies. I would listen to audio tapes of Blackadder and records by The Beatles. It wasn’t that music was of no interest, it was just second to my gaming/schoolboy habits. Why spend pocket money on the latest by New Kids on the Block, when I could buy some ammo for my catapult? That standard was maintained throughout Primary school, and half of secondary. I would go home from school, climb trees, jump ditches and build military bunkers. When it was dark I would boot up the Spectrum or Master System and game my little heart away.

But then things changed. Peer pressure got to be too much, and I started to listen to music in a more social manner.

I am Confused Right Now… No, Not Like That!

Posted in Art, Games on July 4th, 2008 by Bouncybhall

FIGHT!I like to spend a lot of my time on t’internet reading news posts, watching videos and browsing the plethora of web comics online right now, som gaming related, take CAD for example, and others more obscure, like xkcd or Amazing Superpowers.

I like them, but I also like the Zero Punctuation series, and this week’s video caused the two to clash, leaving me with the same feeling you have when two of your best friends have an argument over who gets to lick the spoon after a baking session - and no that isn’t an analogy unfortunately.

Hit the jump for the offending video.

It’s not all games, games, games

Posted in Art on June 2nd, 2008 by boidster

Over the last few years, a huge number of web comics using gaming as their inspiration, have sprung up.  One such comic that a number of us here at The Lolocaust read is Ctrl+Alt+Del.

This morning I loaded the site up ready to catch the next addition to the story line, and instead of the usual tomfoolery that Ethan, Lucas, Lilah and co. get up to, I was faced with a real life situation.  If you’re a regular reader too, you’ll no doubt already have seen it, but if you don’t keep up to date with CAD, then I suggest you hop over to ctrlaltdel-online.com and get CAD-ucated.

Sorry, bad play on words.

It may take you a while to get through each comic from the beginning but it really is worth it as you’ll understand the most recent developments all the better in terms of the characters.

Why am I blogging this now after all these months? Quite simply, when an artist tries to tackle issues that are considered by many to be outside the scope of their medium, I think they should be applauded. I really enjoy Tim’s story-telling style, especially given the limited number of panels he uses, and he frankly deserves some kudos for his work!
