Why I Will NOT Be Buying Soul Calibur on the XBLA

VoldoContrary to popular opinion - read the opinion of a few people - I will no longer be stumping up 800 Microsoft points for Namco’s classic fighting title, Soul Calibur.

Now this is a surprise I guess, especially as it is one of my all time favourite gaming series, coupled with the fact that it was the best fighting game on the Dreamcast, which of course is the best console ever made.

Want a decent reason?

Hit the jump then.

So, you need a reason eh?

Well how about this?

They have removed the Mission Mode. The mode in which you have to complete a series of matches under certain conditions. For example, defeat Voldo using only throws.

What has me really riled is that this mode was central to the longevity of the title, and it appears that Bandai Namco - as they are now known - have clearly decided that such a mode was not something that current gamers would enjoy, nor would they want to have to unlock characters, instead all ‘unlockables’ are unlocked from the very beginning. That includes concept art.

FUCKING CONCEPT ART!!

Why would gamers prefer concept art over the Mission Mode?

Either way I shall be voting with my wallet on this one, and sticking to the Dreamcast.

Or at least I shall be until I get drunk one night and buy it in a frenzy of indulgence. The last time that happened I bought a lot of the old Atari games. For shame.
